I upgrade my Nashville tele with T7 custom to have bridge and neck position. It has a push pull that adds another range of tones. This unit makes the pick ups sound with more detail and cleaner. Quick install!
Put this kit into a squier hss cv70. I have a lot of time and money into this guitar and now id say this will be with me until i pass. The kit is super easy to install and works exactly like i wanted it to.
This sounds great and was easy to instal BUT The pots are "too smooth" and they rattle. .. I wanted to love this but, I'm not happy.
Obsisian is the BEST in solderless electronics for upgrading and modifying guitars!!
My '72 P-bass had gone silent, and in researching replacement electronics, I stumbled on Obsidian. After reading the reviews, I decided to give myself a break and not have to worry about soldering. Of course things rarely go as planned, and when I took a close look at the existing electronics, I noticed that I had two live leads coming from the pickups. I wasn't surprised as the bass had been modified by Alembic back in 1976, and at that time they replaced the original pickups with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders. After a little pondering, I decided to strip and twist the two leads together to create a single live wire. My first attempt at installing the Obsidian unit resulted in silence. Then I realized I had flipped the unit upside down, and once I got things properly oriented and reconnected, I was rewarded by the best sound the instrument had put out in years. I guess the point is that the solderless connections are very forgiving and allow for a bit of trial and error without the hassle of soldering, unsoldering and resoldering. I found the resulting sound to be much cleaner, wider in frequency response and just plain better than the old pots and wiring. I highly recommend Obsidian for sound quality, ease of installation and flexibility during the installation process. Pros and novices alike will appreciate Obsidian's features.
Easy and quick to install, it just works with no headaches
Absolutely love this wiring harness for my Warmoth Strat. This is the fourth or fifth harness I've had in this guitar at it's definitely the best. My main gripe with the other harnesses I've tried before is the poor taper of the potentiometers where the volume/tone would just decrease too rapidly as you turn down. Not the case with the Obsidian. I now have an even and smooth volume and tone taper across the the whole movement of the pot . Also I love the clarity switch which combined with the taper of the pots allows me to get lots of different and usable tones with great clarity that I was never able to get before. Only one minor issue I had was that my strat control cavity had to be widened ever so slightly by the tone controls to get the harness to fit, but after I removed a little bit of wood it fit right in. Because of that it too me several hours to install because of the necessary wood work.
I've a 2012 Fender US Deluxe Strat with the S-1 switching and noiseless pickups. After a pickup swap the sound improved but discarding the S-1 switching and moving to the Obsidian Wire Gen 2 HSS harness has totally transformed the sound of this guitar. Not only is it quieter, the sound is clearer, sharper, more sensitive. You can hear each string distinctly. I just can't believe the difference this has made. I feel like this is the way that this guitar was always made to sound. I have no idea why Fender are not fitting these as stock to their US guitars.
The quality of the harness is excellent. Took a few weeks to arrive in the UK from New Zealand but no messing around with taxes.
So far not good. But Obsidian team is working with me to change the amount of stars.
Such a nice modern setup, easy install. Striping the wires was probably the hardest thing I did.
Nice and neat. Nice soldering seems well built. Couldn't use because of pot difference spacing but decided to keep for a different build.
I purchased loaded pickguard with Tonerider TRS1 Pure Vintage for a Squire Stratocaster (SSS). The installation took about 45 minutes (add time for cleaning/re-stringing). This is a super easy install/upgrade and my guitar looks and sounds great (much improved).
I had a bit of a problem with short leads from the neck pup I had to work around.
It felt like I could use a third hand sometimes trying to get the wire in its proper place. But…..
It was well worth it. The improvement in tone is phenomenal. Precise and clear.
This Squier VM never sounded so good.
Thanks.
Noticed the difference immediately! I’m impressed with the quality and feel of the product. Very easy to install and the instant surprise of clear clean notes. I want to do all my basses now.
So simple to install, fit right into my Strat. Love the Blender feature and a master tone control. So many Fenders lack a tone control for the Bridge pickup. Buying another for a different Strat. Obsidian seems to be the only quality option for solderless Pickguards in Black!
Installed this in a 1990 Les Paul Custom and very pleased with the results. It sounded great before but this improved the sound even more. Guess my wires were getting a bit old. It was extremely easy to install and had no issues fitting it in and t he original knobs fit too. Love the 50s/60s switch option as well.
Sounds amazing using in gigs
The little"tone" knob does not sit low to the control panel like the other two regular size knobs. It looks pretty wierd .. please send me a regular sized knob.
After the second delivery by Thomann i have had hopes to plug and play.
However:
It will take you hours to get the wires into the miniportals! And once stuck, they simple unlock themselves!
Then i extended the wires to work more easely! Same problem with the portals.
The irritation is overwhelming….
So back goes the second unit!
I was a bit anxious about installing it after seeing the instructions but it was incredibly easy, and the end result was amazingly clean sound, great controls.
I replaced my 2023 Affinity series Squier Strat's pickup and electronics with this one here and the installation was rather trivial. I did add an improvement to my guitar apart from this excellently packaged, made electronics upgrade for my strat. Specifically, I shielded the electronics cavity and, along with the shielding this Obsidian Wire pickguard comes with, my electronics is now fully shielded! The tones--I went with the TRS4 (Tonerider Alnico 2 blues)--nice, fat, bluesy and yes, like the description says, no distortion even at full volume. I did have to add some insulation to the top of the pickup switch as it was touching my copper shielding but that was trivial. I went with paper insulation. There were three _additional_ ground pins available for use after I connected my guitar output jack so I used it for the tremelo base grounding.
My strat is fantastic sounding now! STRONGLY recommend this product. Compares favorably with my PRS which is multiple times more expensive in price.
Oh--after sales service from Obsidian wire is frikkin excellent! They threw in a guitar output jack for me and I very much appreciated that thoughtful gesture. And the shipping was quite fast, actually. From the time I ordered it in Massachusetts, I got my package, all the way from New Zealand in one week!!!!
I did the Obsidion 4-way switch mod for my CV 50's Tele which required a new plate and knobs. As was the case with the solder free 4-way switch and new switch plate, the knobs - required to fit the new 1/4" pot stems - was high quality and fit perfectly. I highly recommend all of these products.
Super nice unit, although the Schaller 5 way switch should come with both black & white switch tips. They're not a standard fit like most all else, and really had to hunt for for one in white that would fit. It's still a bit loose but will do. Other than that, super happy with it. Much easier than a soldier job no doubt.
Easy set up. Sounds great. I'm impressed with the service and quality.
