Pro-Wired Bass Wiring
ObsidianWire bass wiring harnesses are designed specifically for popular Fender-style bass configurations, with professionally assembled electronics that make upgrading your instrument easier. The current range includes Precision Bass and Jazz Bass wiring harnesses, dedicated left-handed versions and complete Jazz Bass loaded control plates.
Precision Bass Wiring
The ObsidianWire for Precision Bass is a complete electronics upgrade designed around the classic P Bass control layout. It incorporates ObsidianWire modifications intended to improve clarity at lower volume settings and provide a smoother, more usable volume and tone response.
Selected Precision Bass models also feature switchable 250K / 500K operation. The 250K mode is suited to traditional vintage-style pickups, while 500K can provide increased clarity with some modern pickup designs.
Jazz Bass Wiring
The ObsidianWire for Jazz Bass is built around the familiar two-pickup Jazz Bass circuit, with custom modifications for smoother control and improved clarity.
The harness uses custom ObsidianWire CTS® 250K potentiometers, a custom-spec treble bleed circuit and either a Switchcraft® J11 or PureTone® output jack, depending on the configuration. The treble bleed is designed to help retain high-frequency clarity as the volume control is rolled back, while the modified control taper provides a more even response across the volume and tone range.
Left-Handed Bass Wiring
Left-handed players don't have to settle for a standard right-handed control response. ObsidianWire offers dedicated Lefty! Precision Bass and Jazz Bass harnesses with specially configured potentiometers.
The Lefty P Bass harness uses specially crafted left-handed potentiometers to provide the appropriate reverse control rotation and a smoother volume and tone taper.
Solderless Bass Wiring
One of the biggest advantages of an ObsidianWire harness is the Plug, Play & Enjoy™ solderless connection system.
The electronics arrive professionally assembled, so you don't have to wire individual pots, capacitors and connections inside your bass. Once installed, compatible pickups can also be changed without repeatedly soldering inside the instrument.
That makes a solderless bass harness particularly useful for players who experiment with different pickups, bass builders and technicians who regularly work on multiple instruments.
Bass Wiring & Pickup Compatibility
Different bass pickups can have different output characteristics and tonal requirements, which is why some ObsidianWire circuits provide selectable options rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
The switchable 250K / 500K configuration on selected models allows you to alter the load presented to the pickups. Lower resistance can suit traditional pickups where you want to tame the highs, while a higher resistance setting can provide additional clarity with some modern pickup designs.
Always check the individual product specifications and compatibility information before ordering, particularly when working with a modified bass or non-standard pickup configuration.
Fender & Squier Compatibility
ObsidianWire bass harnesses are designed around specific Fender-style instruments rather than being universal replacements.
The Precision Bass harnesses are designed to fit American and Mexican Fender Precision Bass models directly, while Japanese Fender and Squier instruments may require a genuine Fender USA pickguard or modifications to the control mounting holes and replacement 1/4" solid-shaft knobs.
The Jazz Bass harness is designed as a direct fit for American and Mexican Fender Jazz Bass models, while Japanese Fender and Squier instruments may require a genuine Fender USA control plate and appropriate knobs, or an ObsidianWire control plate and knobs.
Always check the installation guide and control-hole spacing before ordering.
Bass Wiring or a Loaded Control Plate?
If you're upgrading a Jazz Bass, you can choose between a pre-wired electronics harness or a complete loaded control plate.
A wiring harness is ideal when you want to retain your existing control plate. A loaded control plate combines the pre-wired electronics with the plate, giving you a more complete replacement assembly.
ObsidianWire currently offers both standard and chrome Jazz Bass loaded control plate options, as well as Custom Works loaded control plates.
Built With Quality Components
ObsidianWire bass electronics are assembled in-house using carefully selected components. Depending on the model, these include:
- Custom ObsidianWire CTS® potentiometers
- 250K and 500K switching on selected models
- Custom-spec treble bleed circuits
- Polyester film capacitors
- Switchcraft® output jacks
- PureTone® output jacks
- Professionally assembled solderless connections
The focus isn't simply on replacing stock components. ObsidianWire modifies the circuits and control tapers to provide a more predictable and usable response from the instrument's controls.
Upgrade Your Bass Electronics
Whether you're looking for Precision Bass wiring, Jazz Bass wiring, solderless bass wiring, a left-handed harness or a complete Jazz Bass loaded control plate, ObsidianWire provides a professionally assembled alternative to wiring your bass from scratch.
Upgrade once, then make compatible pickup changes without repeatedly reaching for the soldering iron.
