This is my second MKII for a Gibson LP and the one thing I wish this came with (both times now) was a second set of washers and nuts for the pots as I've had to elevate the board in the cavity so that the knobs aren't floating way above the body.
Also, the toggle switch doesn't come with a recessed/deep nut for carved top LPs, so I had to swap the wiring and keep the existing switch (because the recessed nut on the stock Switchcraft switch wasn't compatible with this Switchcraft switch - which isn't that big of a deal, but is kind of annoying and it does mean this is not a totally solderless install if you're swapping over from something like this.
Most of that could be interpreted as personal preference, but a kit like this should at least assume some of these things... or at least provide options for these things on checkout.
Hi There,
Thanks for getting in touch.
The pots on the LP sets come with nuts pre-loaded on each one. These can be set further up the shaft to set the effective length that pokes through the body.
The switches we supply have a longer thread body than the Switchcraft switches, which means they tend to have adequate length for poking through the body without the need for a recessed nut.
I hope this helps.

Bought myself a baritone Squier Tele that just wasn't cutting it. Purchased some noiseless g4 fender pickups and didn't really wanted to solder it in. And having had a great experience with obsidian some years back I decided to give it another go and I have no regrets. Guitar sounds great, minimal noise and the 4 way mod just gold for the amount of gain I am throwing at this guitar. The packaging was solid, the build quality was solid. Everything come in perfect conditions. Will definitely return when the need comes again.
Love my new harness from Obsidian Wire. Shipped out very fast. Instructions were straight forward and it works exactly as expected. Added bonus. I did not realize it came with the output jack as well :)
Great sound easy to install. I will buy another soon….
Adding this drop in harness was pretty easy. The only real hiccup was the holes in my Epiphone LP didn’t match up. Not the fault of Obsidian Wire, my guitar was the problem. Once I got the holes to a point where I could install one of them didn’t cover up completely.
Now as for installing switches and pickups? Couldn’t have been easier. Took me all of 10 minutes. I prefer the 50s wiring, but how great is it that if I choose to use modern wiring I flip two switches. I love the taper of the pots. This is a great and easy upgrade and recommend it over rewiring it. I had rewired to 50s wiring diagram but the MKII sounds much better than my wiring, and I have rewired many guitars successfully.
The only problem I have is the knobs sit high even though I have the unit as low as I can get it., but I can live with that.
Get one, you wont be disappointed!
Fitted in 20 mins sounds amazing more purchases to follow
I love the quality and ease of install. My previous setup looked like a bird's nest but now it's neat and clean. I notice greater variability in volume and tone.
Love my New Harness! Super Fast install! Sounds incredible with my Gen 4 Noiseless Fender Stratocaster Pickups! Can't wait to play more!
The quality is amazing. Absolutely the best electronic guitar purchase I’ve ever made.
Dropped right In should have done this a long time ago
I love the concept but the parts hold it back. Despite saying the pots are CTS they don’t feel like it. The CTS pots I have in other guitars feel way smoother and give a more positive response. Also the switch I got has a lot of play feeling very cheap (It has no brand markings so I can’t tell if my sample is typical). All of this is very disappointing given the price. The best part is the Pure Tone jack (I swear by them.) I could have bought quality parts and payed someone to install them for the same or less money.
Hi Phill,
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear you are not enjoying your new Pro-Wired Electronics as much as we would hope.
I can confirm that we do use CTS pots. These are contract manufactured by CTS for us, using a 'Low-Torque' design which allows for easier turning, and a longer wear life. CTS also offers a standard torque option, which may be what you are used to.
Best Regards,
Mathew
A very quality product, very well packaged. I'm not a handy man or fix-it guy. Having said that, instructions left me a little dazed. Emailed Obsidian and the owner of the company got me sorted out, talk about customer service! Thanks for the help dude.
Absolutely Love My New Prewired Obsidian Unit! I want one for everyone of my guitars!
This is a top quality product. I got the pre-wired harness mounted to a new control plate. Installation was easier than the removal of the factory plate and controls. The potentiometers make such a huge difference in volume and tone control. This has turned my good Jazz Bass into a fantastic Jazz Bass. If you're on the fence about this upgrade, go ahead and do it. The price is great and by doing it yourself, you're going to save money. And, be proud of tuning up your bass. Thank you, ObsidianWire!
Great products, I have Les Paul and Gilmour mod HSH too
My stock Mexico Nashville Telecaster only had a 5 way switch, so wanted to mod it; this kit made it very easy. My stock pots were also spotty and had weird dead zones. The new pots have excellent control and roll off. The 7 way selector and the new pots were a welcome upgrade. Super easy install.
Went to Obsidian Wire to upgrade my electronics for my Fender Jazz due to their ease of install. Surprised with how quickly I received the product, considering it had to come across the world to get to me. Product works perfectly and sounds brilliant! Excellent craftsmanship and easy install!
Custom Blender for Strat® // 250k for SSS
This made wiring my Telecaster easy, and it seems to be very well made.
So easy to fit and an amazing upgrade.
This is the second unit I purchased. Both are excellent products. They're well made, all high quality components. I would not hesitate to buy again.
I bought this wiring harness to go with Railhammer humbuckers, partly because the pickups also needed an upgrade to 500k pots. The simplicity of the coil splitting for an HH setup is terrific, the sound is phenomenal, and the installation was easy enough for a complete newbie to carry off.
Stumbled onto a random post in a forum that mentioned obsidian wireless harness. Figurerd it was worth a look. Had some doubts about my ability to do this. Soldering and assembling each pot and wire would have made the job a hard pass for me. I know plenty of people do it - I simply have no desire to pay for tools and patiently learn the skill.
Probably took an hour all together as I was referencing the directions and such. Turned out that the middle single coil I had was out of phase with the neck and bridge buckers. Didn’t sound terrible to be honest but there was a volume drop in positions 2 &4. So after installing pups for the first time, I popped the guard off and extracted the middle pup. Switched the ground and hot wires. Put it back together and it sounds even better lol!
Long story short, sound is superb, and this kit simplifies the process to the extent that a total know-nothing like myself can manage to “wire” a HSH super strat . I’m still sorta shocked.
The only possible down side to this I see is the potential for getting hooked on trying new pups since it’s so easy to swap them in and out now.
