This made wiring my Telecaster easy, and it seems to be very well made.
So easy to fit and an amazing upgrade.
This is the second unit I purchased. Both are excellent products. They're well made, all high quality components. I would not hesitate to buy again.
I bought this wiring harness to go with Railhammer humbuckers, partly because the pickups also needed an upgrade to 500k pots. The simplicity of the coil splitting for an HH setup is terrific, the sound is phenomenal, and the installation was easy enough for a complete newbie to carry off.
Stumbled onto a random post in a forum that mentioned obsidian wireless harness. Figurerd it was worth a look. Had some doubts about my ability to do this. Soldering and assembling each pot and wire would have made the job a hard pass for me. I know plenty of people do it - I simply have no desire to pay for tools and patiently learn the skill.
Probably took an hour all together as I was referencing the directions and such. Turned out that the middle single coil I had was out of phase with the neck and bridge buckers. Didn’t sound terrible to be honest but there was a volume drop in positions 2 &4. So after installing pups for the first time, I popped the guard off and extracted the middle pup. Switched the ground and hot wires. Put it back together and it sounds even better lol!
Long story short, sound is superb, and this kit simplifies the process to the extent that a total know-nothing like myself can manage to “wire” a HSH super strat . I’m still sorta shocked.
The only possible down side to this I see is the potential for getting hooked on trying new pups since it’s so easy to swap them in and out now.
The controls/selector came beautifully boxed and looks wonderful. However, it doesn't fit in my G&L Tribute ASAT Classic, which the website stated wouldn't fit. I should have listened....however, I just picked up a CNC Router and plan on cutting out and making my own T-style body and I will use the Obsidian Wire control set on it.
Easy install and the versatility to be able to switch-out pickups without having to solder is helpful.
Just FYI I purchased this for a Sire V5 four string . It fit Perfectly. (Just wanted to let other Sire owners know that it fit; at least my model since there is not a lot of info out there.) Of course it was a pretty simple install and sounded great! This is my second time using Obsidian Wire. First time I purchased the set for an American P bass. This company is my go to for a quick install and great sound!
Bought on eBay for $260.00. Added Obsidian pots & pups.
Sounds awesome & looks fantastic. Had to drill slightly oversized holes in body for good fit… easy if your careful. Everything else fit like a glove.
Didn’t think the copper foil cavity really mattered, I was wrong! saw how the signal flow went and removed the foil, then had loud buzz, retraced the steps and saw I had the output wires backward’s. plugged into the amp and glorious sounds of a Les Paul Standard and a Amplified Nation filled the room! smooth control of the pot’s and the ability to change from 50 to 60 wiring a big plus! I’ll be ordering more soon for my other Guitars.
This was s very simple installation. I did have to increase the size of the holes for the pots but that was not a problem at all.
Two little things: Be very careful when tightening braided pickup wires...it is very easy to over-tighten and short out the wiring
-and-
I replaced the switch shipped with this system - with a Switchcraft switch. Easy to do and only soldering I had to do.
Aside from those two items - very easy and when I was done, it was super-clean in that control cavity. This product is the type that should be in every new guitar.
Aside from me over-tightening the ground screw and the personal preference of a Switchcraft switch - this bit of kit is the best I could find and so simple to install.
I used these on the solderless P-bass wiring harness, also from Obsidianwire. These knobs are solid, heavy, and have a positive feel. Fit to the potentiometer shaft is perfect. Paired with the Obsidianwire harness, I could not be more pleased. There is some resistance in the feel, but not too much, and the substantial knobs exude quality, giving a well-built and sturdy feel.
Performs as advertised! I love it.
Had to do a little carving inside the pot cavity but that was the only thing that kept it from being a "drop -in" install. Great product. I'll be back for more.
Thanks OW
I’m not handy with a soldering iron and this definitely made the process easier. I’m not an experienced tinkerer so I can’t say if it has a greater range of sounds, but it’s certainly not less!
Realllllly helped bring out my neck pickup from muddy to an insane amount of tonal options. It’s like having a pedal on your guitar. Definitely recommend getting this before you change your pickups. You Can get crazy amounts of different tones on one guitar! Gone from barely playing my les Paul to the first guitar I grab. Was going to change my pickups soo glad I changed to this wiring instead.
One thing that I didn’t find in any reviews and I was a little worried about that I can’t believe hasn’t been addressed in any of the videos /reviews currently out there at the time of writing is how great the range of the tone pots are!! All the reviews have been about the volume. If you like to ride your tone nob for lots of different flavours like a LP JR. you’ll love this. The tone pots on this give you a great range and sweep the tone spectrum beautifully. Really is a super upgrade.
Lastly the other thing that’s not mentioned and will save you a lot of time on install is when you push down on the solder-less wiring button to insert the pickup or any wiring into it.
‘You’re not clamping down on the wire!’ When you push the button. You’re opening up the hole to insert wiring and it will clamp down on it when you release the button. So push down on the button before inserting the wire and then release the button to hold the wire in place. It will be a lot quicker and easier and save you the headache if you know this ahead of time.
I installed this hum bucker in the neck of my Tele. Great sound in neck position and an amazing sound blended with my bridge Tele single coil!
I'm really happy with this upgrade. After I watched some videos, I was able to install with minimal difficulty. Great product!
I’ve been having trouble with my installment ground from the bridge works but I’m using Aguilar AP hot pickups and they are not fitting dont know the reason it’s says fits most gauges. I’ve sent emails concerning the issue but nothing
First, I want to start by saying I was very impressed with how fast my order made it all the way from NZ! When the package arrived I was very impressed an pleased with how everything was packaged. I love the look and sound of the the loaded pickguard/pickups I went with and overall I am very happy with my purchase. I would definitely purchase from Obsidian Wire again in the future! My only note would be to include item specific instructions for products. I had some trouble with my install when I ended up following the wrong diagram because I'm not technically minded at all, Once I had someone smarter than me point out I was following the wrong diagram, I was able to get everything working perfectly. Product specific instructions would have been helpful in my case.
I love the custom Nashville 7 way for my Nashville tele. Was easy to install and the instructions great. Love it so far. Especially being able to now get that middle position between the bridge and neck pickup
Great I love my product from you had to modify but works great thank you
Obsidian Wire's Vintage Plus for Strat Gen2 wiring harness is fantastic. It was easy to install and sounds great.
Obsidian made it easy to pair the neck humbucker with the single coil on my telecaster. And can also pull on the tone knob for single coil neck tones. The assembly is compact and easy to install.
